The leagues leading point scorer Addison DeBoer notched a goal and two assists in his teams 3-2 win over the Sydney Bears on Sunday night in Penrith.
DeBoer got the first of his three points 3:43 in, assisting Mark Rummukainen to convert on a 5-on-3 power play.
The Bears struggling power play performed well in the first, with Laurie Mock netting the equalizer for the home team. Then, captain Michael Schlamp outmanoeuvred the Knights defence and fired a shot over import goalie Jason Lindner’s shoulder, allowing the Bears to gain a 2-1 lead.
“With the position we’re in we’ve got to look towards next year, so we gave some of the younger boys a run,” said Bears Alt-captain Brett Nelson-Bond.
A penalty ridden second gave these players a chance to shine, and that they did holding off the Knights attempts to equalize.
The Knights came out with a mission in the third, putting the pressure on Bears goalie Sheldon Baerg who made several great saves against the leagues top goal scorers.
However the Knights top line proved too strong for the Bears, with Antony Circula scoring the equalizer halfway through the third.
Shortly after DeBoer demonstrated why he is the leading point scorer in the league, scoring the game-winning goal.
Knights import Goalie Jason Lindner stopped 20 of 22 shots, whilst Baerg stopped 39 of 41 for the Bears.
Knights coach David Rogina was happy with the win; however felt his team could have played better.
“It was a pretty tight hard fought game, we had several chances to score but missed,” said Rogina. “The first two Bears goals were off our mistakes, we've got to play better if we want to score more goals.”
