Star performers
Melbourne Mustangs: Brendan McDowell
Should he play the remainder of the games this season, the Mustangs’ alternate captain Brendan McDowell should hit 100 games for both the Mustangs and in the AIHL. After flying into the year with a hat-trick and four points in the first game of the season, McDowell has been a strong contributor for the Mustangs and a guy they can trust will stay on the ice, having not take a penalty minute this season.
 
CBR Brave: Kyle Mariani
The Brave’s import defenceman Kyle Mariani will have the Mustangs on notice, especially since his radar has been spot on over the last few weeks, scoring five goals in the last three games from the blue line. This included a hat-trick in only five minutes against the Ice Dogs last Saturday, taking full advantage of a major penalty. The Mustangs will have to be wary of the Brave’s defensive sharpshooter.
 
Cold Hard Stats
1. This is will be the third and fourth meeting between the CBR Brave and Melbourne Mustangs in 2015. The teams have won a game each with the Brave’s record 1-0-0-1.
 
2. The teams have played three weekends against each other, having split all three so far.
 
3. The Brave have three players – Stephen Blunden, Kelly Geoffrey and Scott Pitt – in the top 10 point scorers in the AIHL, equal with the North Stars.
 
4. As the leading point scorer for the Mustangs – the only Australian points leader in a team – Jamie Bourke scored five points (1 goal, 4 assists) in the two games against the Brave earlier this season. Last year, he scored one goal, one assist in four games against the Brave.
