The Australian Ice Hockey League (AIHL) is committed to enhancing the standard of play and fan experience. This includes a requirement for each team to field its best available players and the strongest possible team in every game. AIHL By-Law 4 regarding Away Game Obligations states that "Each Team must travel to its away Games with at least fifteen (15) Players" unless the team has applied for an exemption in advance with good reason. The penalty for breaching this by-law is a written warning by the Commission for the first breach. A second breach will seen an automatic $500 fine. If the by-law is breached for a third time or more time, the team will automatically forfeit three match points for every game the by-law is breached. On July 4, Sydney Ice Dogs dressed 12 players, 3 short of their away team obligation. No exemption was requested or granted. On July 4, the Sydney Ice Dogs were issued a written warning. On the weekend of July 25 and 26, the Sydney Ice Dogs failed to meet away team obligations again. Their second and third breaches to the AIHL by-law attracted a $500 fine and forfeiture of three (3) competition points. Subsequent breaches will attract further forfeitures of three competition points. As the Ice Dogs have reverted to 0 points on the AIHL ladder, the team will not gain any further ladder points until they have accumulated the points they have forfeited. |
