The Melbourne Ice have got off to an ideal start to their 2017 AIHL season with a crushing 5-2 win over Adelaide Adrenaline in a dominant display at O'Brien Group Arena on Saturday night.
Kristoffer Backman scored the game-winning goal in the second period as the Ice piled 42 shots on Peter King's net, while Goodall Cup-winning goaltender Dayne Davis was forced to make 15 saves in his Melbourne Ice debut.

Viktor Gibbs-Sjodin scored in his first AIHL game since 2015, while import forwards Niklas Dahlberg and Sebastian Ottosson found their way on to the score sheet for the Ice, as did Matt Armstrong.
Darren Corstens continued his fine start to the season for Adelaide, posting his third goal in two games, while Josef Rezek continued on from his solid international form, tallying a goal and an assist.
The Ice and Adrenaline do battle again tomorrow, with Adelaide looking to get back in the winners' column while Melbourne look to consolidate on their positive start to the season.
