2014 AIHL Award Finalists |
The 2014 AIHL Awards finalists have been announced with all eight AIHL clubs represented across the four awards. The finalists are: ----- Most Valuable Player Mathieu Ouellette – CBR Brave No matter what happens in the finals, Ouellette will take a piece of AIHL history with him, being the Brave’s first goal scorer in an AIHL match. However, the Canadian has been even more influential as a playmaker, assisting in 40 of his teams goals this season, tallying 57 points in 22 matches. Jack Wolgemuth – Melbourne Mustangs The American import has arguably been more important in his second season in the AIHL. Having scored 19 points (five goals, 14 assists) in 22 games, it’s been the defenceman’s toughness behind a productive offensive line that has seen him voted one of the most influential players in the league. Simon Barg – Sydney Ice Dogs Barg has had a huge career thus far with the Sydney Ice Dogs, scoring 122 points (47 goals, 75 assists) in 53 games. Currently on top of the AIHL leading scorers list, Barg broke his own season record for points in a season for the Ice Dogs and has been an integral part of the teams’ bid to defend the Goodall Cup. ----- Goalie of the Year Petri Pitkänen – CBR Brave Mathieu Dugas – Perth Thunder Daniel Palmkvist – Sydney Bears ----- Defenceman of the Year Jack Wolgemuth – Melbourne Mustangs John Kennedy Jr. – Newcastle North Stars Niko Suoraniemi – Adelaide Adrenaline ----- Rookie of the Year Hayden Sheard – Newcastle North Stars Jamie Woodman – Perth Thunder Jeremy Brown – Melbourne Ice ------ The award winners will be announced at a function to be held at the Groove Train on Saturday the 30th of August at the conclusion of the second AIHL semi-final. Entry is free and is first come, first served. |
