|Funes last man in Elimination Shootout
The Sydney Bears’ Brian Funes was the last man standing in the Ryzer Elimination Shootout at AIHL All-Star Skills Competition at the Penrith Ice Palace on Saturday night.
The shootout got into the third round before the remaining players missed and the judges awarded Funes the win in the shootout.
It also meant that Team Armstrong won the day 17-15 with Team Schlamp needing its final two members – Michael Schlamp and Brandon Greenside – to score their third round goals to snatch the draw.
However, they were denied, leaving the win for Funes and Team Armstrong.
Funes had a good day, dressing up a Mexican wrestler mask and wearing an Argentinian flag in the Breakaway Challenge and performing well in his two successful Elimination Shootout shots.
“It was great, good fun, I really enjoyed that,” Funes said. “Putting the costumes on, had the flag on for my family from South America.”
He continued, saying it was a fun day overall.
“All the guys came up with some pretty fun ideas,” Funes said. “The cricket bat, that was awesome; the Steve Irwin, that was definitely a good one. Everyone came out with some fun props.”
