An abbreviated round compacted by the postponement of the Ice Dogs v North Stars clash on Sunday saw the ledger return to the trend of 2014 with three of four games being clinched by visiting teams. The bar has well and truly been set for hosting teams this season, with only one home team managing to secure a win when scoring less than three goals. All four losing teams managed to score two goals as the Adrenaline and Mustangs split the only intra-weekend series one game apiece. Sydney got its first taste of derby action at Sydney Ice Arena on Saturday evening and it was the Ice Dogs who continued their dominant run over the Bears. ----- Adrenaline 2 @ Mustangs 6The Mustangs claimed a fourth win in their last five home matches The Mustangs galloped to their biggest winning margin in nine games The Adrenaline lost consecutive away fixtures for the first time in 10 games The Mustangs scored six goals on home ice for the sixth time in its AIHL history Three separate players registered three points for the Mustangs on Saturday night for the first time since their 5-4 shootout victory over the North Stars in the final round of the 2013 season ----- Brave 5 @ North Stars 2The Brave became the first AIHL team from Canberra to win four consecutive matches in 2,108 days The Brave scored five goals for the third game in a row and remain undefeated away from home Newcastle scored only its fourth goal in their last four matches at home, failing to take any competition points in that period Just once in their last four games have the North Stars scored more than two goals Mathieu Ouellette scored a career-high four points to propel himself into eighth position on the AIHL 2014 point-scoring leader board ----- Ice Dogs 6 @ Bears 2The Sydney Bears have now lost six of their last seven matches at Sydney Ice Arena The Ice Dogs are undefeated in regular time in their last nine matches against the Bears Despite occupying lowly sixth position on the ladder, the Ice Dogs are currently scoring more goals per game (4.7) than any season since 2003 (5.43) John Clewlow produced a 4-point performance to join team mates Simon Barg, David Dunwoodie and Robert Malloy in the top four point-scorers of AIHL 2014 A double to import Sean Hamilton Steen sees him scoring a goal per game in 2014 and brings his season tally to eight, double that of any other Sydney Bears player and equal fourth overall on the league’s leading goal scorers list ----- Adrenaline 3 @ Mustangs 2 (shootout)The Adrenaline have now won three of four shootout contests in 2014, the most of any team and a vastly improved record after their ledger read 3-5 at the end of 2013 Five of the last seven games between these sides have been decided after regular time, the Adrenaline holding a 3-2 advantage over the Mustangs in the shootout over that period Adelaide won on the road for the first time in three matches, as two of their last three road victories have been decided by shootout The Adrenaline have now beaten the Mustangs at Medibank Ice Arena more than any other team from outside of Victoria A third-period double to Darren Corstens forced the shootout for the Adrenaline. Corstens currently averages 1.1 points per game, his best figure in his fifth season in the AIHL |
