Hot hand Powell claims All-Star Stickhandling Competition
Sunday, September 13, 2015 - Submitted by Carol Chapman
Tommy Powell and Team Schlamp have taken the prize in the All-Star Weekend Rifle Media Stickhandling Competition.

Team Schlamp and Team Bales won two each of four heats with the CBR Brave’s Kai Miettinen representing Team Bales and Melbourne Ice’s Tommy Powell doing Team Schlamp proud in the decider. Team Schlamp won the competition three points to two, narrowing the overall score to 9-8 to Team Bales.

Brian Bales crossed the line a hair’s width before Perth Thunder’s Jamie Woodman, Ice Dog’s Shannon McGregor went down to Powell after the Ice Dog fell, Miettinen defeated the Sydney Ice Dogs’ Daniel Pataky who conceded defeat with a smile and Melbourne Ice’s Mitchell Humphries went down to Adrian Esposito of the Sydney Bears.

Though he claims he’ll do anything for a win, including diving head first across the line to win the Fastest Skater competition, Powell is doing it all with a smile on his face and his tongue in his cheek.

“We haven’t done anything like this before. All the players seem to be loving it,” Powell said. “It’s a good treat.”

“It’s good to meet the other guys on the other teams. It’s a bit of a laugh but everyone still wants to win right? It’s a good time. Go Team Schlamp.”
