The Adelaide Adrenaline was involved in a motor vehicle accident while travelling to their game against CBR Brave on 19 July 2014. As a result of the accident, several Adrenaline players and team officials were taken to the hospital by ambulance for treatment of suspected injuries.
After speaking with both teams’ Governors, game #77 (CBR Brave v. Adelaide Adrenaline) was postponed. Game #79 (Sydney Bears v. Adelaide Adrenaline) scheduled to take place on 20 July 2014 was also postponed.
All three teams worked tirelessly to reschedule games #77 and #79. Unfortunately, feasible alternatives could not be found.
After best efforts were made to reschedule the games without success, the three teams then referred the matter to the AIHL Commission for determination.
Cancellation of Matches
This situation is unprecedented in the AIHL’s 14-year history. It was the first time we faced a situation where it was impossible, or not advisable or responsible, for a team to play a game due to an emergency. It was also the first time we have not been able to reschedule a game.
After reviewing all the relevant facts and circumstances, and consistent with the Commission’s powers under the AIHL Constitution, the Commission made the decision to render the games cancelled. As a result, no further provisions for rescheduling the games, or for including scores or other performance statistics in league records, will be made.
The AIHL Commission has also decided to award each team one point for the cancelled games. Adelaide Adrenaline was awarded one point for game #77 and one point for game #79. CBR Brave was awarded one point for game #77. Sydney Bears was awarded one point for game #79.
The AIHL will manually update the standings by 5 August 2014 to reflect the decision.
