AIHL statement on Macquarie Ice Rink and 2025 season

The AIHL has been made aware of urgent and extensive upgrade work to be undertaken at Macquarie Ice Rink, tentatively scheduled for an 8-week period across April and May in 2025.

The league was only informed of these works on 7th December 2024 by Macquarie, well after the finalisation of the 2025 AIHL season schedule.  The works were due to be completed in time for the start of the 2025 AIHL season, but a delay in the shipping of key components has forced the timeline to extend into the season.

The Board of Directors and the Team Governors have been working with a number of stakeholders including IHNSW and rink owners on a solution, with the ECSL and junior leagues also expected to be heavily impacted.

As a result, it is anticipated that this disruption will significantly impact the 2025 season schedule and the ability of the Sydney Bears and Sydney Ice Dogs to hold home games at Macquarie next year.

A number of options are currently being considered by the AIHL for the 2025 season, however no decision has yet been made while further information is being sought by the league.
