Team Red defeats Team White in Perth Thunder alumni game

Stephen White

Team Red has defeated Team White in the inaugural Perth Thunder alumni game at a sold-out Perth Ice Arena on Saturday.

Team Red took the game 15-10 in a showcase of Thunder stars from past to present, in a live-streamed Christmas showdown that will hopefully become a regular fixture.

Team Governor Andrew Cox, who was on the winning red side, said the game was a huge success and looked forward to future instalments.

"A high scoring 15-10 Perth Thunder inaugural game was a great success. We reached a large number of fans at home and throughout the league," Cox said.

"It was fitting to have Sam Wilson, our first Captain and who was unable to play due to a knee injury, undertake the ceremonial puck drop. Having all the players throughout the generations hit the ice in the Thunder kit together was quite special, a real feeling of continuity through the club."

"We'd also like to say a big thank you to C.D. Dodd who sponsored the game and to all our fans that came along. It was a fantastic way to start an annual Christmas Alumni event."

You can watch a full replay of the livestream here.

Thunder will open the 2025 AIHL season away in Melbourne against the Melbourne Mustangs.
